Michelangelo and Da Vinci created scale models of the dome buildings they designed for their royal and papal patrons.  A half dome allows one to view the intricacies and beauty of a model from both the inside and the outside.  Beautifully finished in an ebonised finish.  It’s a piece de resistance!
